Michele Seguev, Israel

A fascinating stay, an impeccably organized festival: It was just lovely in Slovenia!
Jan Wagner, Germany

The festival was great and a big success.

Odlicna knjizevnost, interesantni autori, duboka citanja...
Nikola Madžirov, Macedonia

This was my first time at Vilenica festival, and I was very happy to participate in it. The festival, the people I met, the quality of the poetry I heard, the perfect organization - everything was really great. Also this was my first tome in Slovenia, which is a wonderful country.
Vladimir Levchev, Bulgaria

Jean Michel Espitallier, France

Return of the Prize Winners- Literary evenings with Vilenica Prize Winners

3 June 2010 at 20.00

During the year in which Ljubljana has become the UNESCO World Book Capital, the Vilenica Festival has invited past winners of the Vilenica Prize to appear again before the Ljubljana public. At three literary evenings, nine of the prize winners will be participating by reading from their current works and joining in the debate on the theme of the Festival, Central Europe and position of the book in present-day society. This is an affirmation of the European prose writers, poets, playwrights and essayists who will not only be appearing at the literary evenings in Ljubljana, but will also creating new texts, which will be published in the year 2010.

On this occasion, guests at the Klub Cankarjevega doma will include Josip Osti and Pavel Vilikovský. The poet Josip Osti lives in Karst and has through his works depicted a stirring poetic image of war in the Balkans. For the past years he has been writing in Slovene and has become one of the central contemporary poets. Appearing together with him will be Pavel Vilikovský, one of the foremost living Slovak prose writers, who through his irony probes into generally accepted preconvictions and truths.

CEI Fellowship for Writers in Residence for the year 2010

1 September 2010

The recipient of the CEI Fellowship for Writers in Residence for the year 2010 is:

Maja Hrgović, Croatia
The CEI Fellowship Committee:

The prose of Maja Hrgović represents a new and efficient voice on the Croatian literary scene. Her style that is probably a consequence of her journalistic experience is topped by a theme of women with complicated and complex personalities.
She writes about modern women, who are decisive, intelligent and marked by their social role, the latter often going away from the traditional one and into different domains of men. Precisely this crossing of borders is the second main theme of her prose, which has been much appreciated by her audience and is dealt with a great thoroughness.
This mixture of features marks the project that was awarded this year’s scholarship. It is a story of contemporary female migrants who will change the image of the world and its culture as we know it.

Guest poet from Belorussia, Andrej Khadanovich won the hearts of the audience, with his vocal gymnastics - performing in his own language, with translations from slam MC Pete Mullineaux. The third book of the Vilenica Anthologies
22. 5. 2008

Artuma: sodobna litovska knji??evnost
The recently published book of the Vilenica Anthologies series is titled Artuma: Contemporary Lithuanian Literature. The book will be presented with a number of guest authors at the Vilenica festival.

The third volume of the Vilenica Anthologies series, edited by Jana Unuk and focused on less familiar European literatures, bears the title Artuma (&39;closeness&39; in Lithuanian) and is dedicated to contemporary Lithuanian literature. The anthology, compiled and edited by Bernarda Pavlovec ??umer, presents eighteen authors: Antanas Škėma, Vytautas P. Bložė, Tomas Venclova, Alfonsas Andriuškevičius, Sigitas Geda, Ričardas Gavelis, Nijolė Miliauskaitė, Juozas Šikšnelis, Kornelijus Platelis, Antanas A. Jonynas, Birutė Jonuškaitė, Eugenijus Ališanka, Jurga Ivanauskaitė, Sigitas Parulskis, Herkus Kunčius, Alvydas Šlepikas, Sonata Paliulytë, and Marius Ivaškevičius. The Slovene translations have been provided by Bernarda Pavlovec ??umer and Lucija Štamulak, with Ona A. Čepaitytė Gams as the language consultant. The author of the accompanying study, which traces the development of Lithuanian literature from the first book in 1547 until now, is Kornelijus Platelis – poet, translator, essayist, and consultant to the Vilenica jury. The visual design of the book, which was published with the support of the following institutions: Books from Lithuania, Literature Across Frontiers, and the Embassy of Lithuania in Ljubljana, matches the overall design of the series, the cover featuring a picture by Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, a recognised Lithuanian artist.

From the foreword of the editor, Bernarda Pavlovec ??umer:
"A look at Lithuanian literary history and a comparison with its Slovene counterpart reveals unexpected parallels with this geographically remote northern nation. Like ours, their literary development begins with Protestantism, with the catechism and alphabet book; literary periods reach both of us with a delay; literature, especially patriotic, preserves and encourages the readers&39; national consciousness and is deeply rooted among the people. In addition, lively literary activity takes place abroad among emigrants. Like the Slovenes, the Lithuanians are considered a nation of poets, and they like to parade before strangers the saying that each pencil in Lithuania has its poet /…/. The selection seeks to introduce both contemporary Lithuanian literature and Lithuania itself, to bring to the reader a piece of this country, of the Lithuanian national mentality."
